Shandong Medical College is a provincial full-time regular higher education institution with two campuses in Linyi and Jinan respectively. The Linyi campus was established in 1966 in Yishui as a branch of Qingdao Medical College, which was later named Yishui Medical College in 1972. It began relocating to Linyi in 1982 and was renamed Linyi Medical College in 1986. In 2004, it was renamed Shandong Medical College. The Jinan campus was originally Shandong Provincial Health Cadre School established in 1954, which was later named Shandong Health Cadre Training Institute and Shandong Jinan Health School in 1958. In 1989, Shandong Health School was reestablished and in 2005 it was incorporated into Shandong Medical College.
The college covers an area of 1,667 mu(a traditional Chinese unit of area, approximately 0.0667 hectares per mu)with a total construction area of 383,800 square meters, fixed assets worth 1.217 billion yuan, teaching instruments and equipment valued at 238 million yuan, a library collection of 1.88 million volumes, and digital resources amounting to 3.8035 million volumes. Currently, the full-time student population totals approximately 26,000, including 3,448 students enrolled in the Secondary-vocational and Higher-vocational Education Articulation Program, and 1,798 adult junior college students.
Programs Offered
The programs cover 4 major disciplines: Medical and Health, Public Management and Services, Resources, Environment, and Safety, and Food, Pharmaceuticals, and Grain, which include 13 major program categories such as Clinical Medicine, Nursing, and Health Management and Promotion, with 31 enrolled programs recruiting students from 16 provinces and cities. The school has been approved for 2 key construction programs supported by the Central Finance, 1 national first batch of Demonstration Health Service Programs in vocational colleges, 1 Ministry of Education Modern Apprenticeship Pilot Program, 20 pilot projects for the 1+X Certificate System of MOE, 3 Provincial High-level Professional Groups, 3 Provincial Brand Professional Groups, and 6 “3+2” Associate-Bachelor's Degree Program. Shandong Medical College is the largest public full-time junior college in Shandong Province,with the most comprehensive range of programs in the fields of medicine, health and health services.
Faculty
The faculty consists of 1,258 full-time teachers, with 52.7% holding senior titles or associate senior titles and 71.7% holding master's degrees or higher. The school currently has 1 National "Double Leader" Studio for Teacher Party Branches, 2 National "Double Leader" Teacher Party Branch Secretaries "Strong Country Campaign" Special Action Teams, 5 Provincial Teaching Teams, 3 Provincial Huang Danian-style Teaching Teams, 6 Provincial Vocational Education Innovation Teams, 2 Provincial Youth Innovation Teams, 4 Provincial Vocational Education Master Studios, and 1 Provincial Vocational Education Skills Inheritance and Innovation Platform. One teacher has been awarded National Outstanding Educator, 1 awarded Provincial Outstanding Teacher, 8 Provincial Teaching Masters, 1 Top-ten Provincial University Teachers with Moral Excellence, 4 Provincial Young Skill Masters, and 2 Provincial Technical Experts. In the recent five years, more than 60 teachers have served as chairs or vice-chairs in academic organizations, teaching guidance committees, and professional construction guidance committees of national, provincial or municipal-level. More than 150 teachers have been appointed as editors-in-chief or deputy editors-in-chief of national and provincial level.
Training Conditions
The college has established 17 high-standard experimental and training centers on campus, 1 Academician He Lin’s Workstation for Personalized Medicine and Translational Medicine and 2 key medical and health laboratories at the municipal and provincial levels. With 266 off-campus internship and training bases located in Shandong province and other places such as Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Suzhou, and Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, the college also has 11 affiliated hospitals. It has also led the formation of Shandong Health Vocational Education Group with 100 member units, the School-Hospital Cooperation Council with 152 member units, Shandong Medical and Health Industry-Education Integration Community with 70 member units, and Medical and Health Industry-Education Integration Alliance with more than 20 member units. Six secondary colleges have been established, including LuNan Public Health College, LuNan Optometry College, Xinhua Medical Technology College, Sunshine Health College, Rural Doctor Training College, and Renhong Health College. School-enterprise cooperation projects have been implemented with well-known domestic enterprises such as WEGO Group, Lunan Pharmaceutical Group, Luye Pharma Group, and Health Engine (Beijing) Medical Technology Corporation and so on.
Academic and Research Excellence
In recent years, the college has obtained 181 Natural Science programs at or above the departmental and municipal level, and more than 370 programs of Humanities and Social Sciences as well as Educational Teaching Research, which include 4 programs supported by National Natural Science Foundation, 3 supported by Provincial Natural Science Foundation, 3 by Ministry of Education, and over 150 research programs at provincial and departmental level. It has won 2 State-level Teaching Achievement Award, and more than 90 awards for scientific research at the provincial and ministerial level and above. The school serves as the host unit of the Vocational Rehabilitation Education Professional Committee under the Chinese Association of Rehabilitation Medicine (CARM), national-level president unit of the Industry-education Integration Community of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy, state-level director unit of the National Health Care Industry-education Integration Community, chairman unit of the Shandong Health Vocational Education Group, standing committee chairman unit of the Provincial Health Vocational Education Professional Construction Committee, chairman unit of Shandong Medical and Health Industry-Education Integration Community, and chairman unit of the Shandong Medical and Health Industry Association and Medical and Health Industry-Education Integration Alliance.The school has also been selected as a vice-chairman unit in 22 national and provincial industry-education integration communities across relevant industries.
Resource Construction
The school has built 3 National Online Quality Courses, 2 National Excellent Resources Sharing Courses, 3 planned courses of China Health Vocational Education Mooc Alliance, 4 recommended courses of the first batch MOE Community Education Courses, 37 Online Quality Courses at provincial level or above, and 2 Provincial First-class Core Course Development Programs. It has built 3 provincial Vocational Education Professional Teaching Resource Databases as well. More than 240 planned textbooks and works have been compiled at national and provincial levels. The school has led the development of 13 provincial teaching normative documents and undertaken the task of writing syllabus and examination guide of the National Health Professional Technical Qualification Examination for Pharmacists. In recent years, it has led the formulation (revision) of the vocational education professional profiles and teaching standards for Medical Imaging Technology and Radiation Therapy Technology of the National Health Commission's higher and secondary vocational education, and developed 6 provincial teaching guidance for majors of Clinical Medicine, Pharmacy, Imaging Technology and so on.
International Cooperation
The college has established cooperative relations with universities, medical institutions, and enterprises in 18 countries and regions such as the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, South Korea, Russia, and Germany, carrying out cooperative programs of credit mutual recognition, degree advancement, student employment, and teacher training. Cooperative training programs have been carried out with the Tyumen State Medical University of Russia for Nursing, with Kyungun University of South Korea for Dental Medicine, and with Dongsin University of South Korea for Optometry Technology. Cooperation agreements have also been signed with German nursing education and care institutions. The school is now a member unit of the Chinese Higher Nursing Education Alliance, a cooperative member unit of the International Standards for Professional Nurses Examination (ISPN), a Deputy Director Unit of the Guanghua International Nursing Education Alliance, and a member unit of the Sino-Russian (Shandong) International Education Cooperation Alliance.
Talent Cultivation
Since its establishment, the school has cultivated 164,700 outstanding health professionals across various disciplines. With the continuous improvement of cultivation quality, the college has its social influence and good reputation improved constantly. In recent years, the admission scores of freshmen have consistently ranked among the top in the province's higher vocational colleges. In particular, in the 2024 summer college entrance examination, the number of admitted candidates above the first-stage admission score line accounted for more than 88% of the total number of admitted students.The graduation employment rate has been above 90%, the corresponding employment rate has been around 95%, and the employers’ satisfaction with graduates has remained at 100%. Five programs have been approved by Ministry of Education for Supply-demand Based Cultivation Program. The number of students admitted to undergraduate studies accounts for more than 1/3 of the total provincial enrollment plan for medical-related majors. The professional qualification certificate acquisition rate for nursing and other majors has been around 90%. In the past five years, over 300 students have won awards in various national and provincial innovation, entrepreneurship, and skills competitions. This includes 2 national first prizes and 2 bronze prizes in the National College Student Career Planning Competition.
Shandong Medical college is one of the first pilot colleges for Assistant General Practitioner Project of the National Excellent Doctor Training Program. It is also one of the Modern Apprenticeship pilot colleges approved by Ministry of Education, one of the pilot colleges for "1+X" Certificate System of MOE, a training base for national and provincial backbone teachers, one of the first construction units of National Health School, and one of the pilot schools of national First Aid Education.
