Introduction to Shandong Medical College

 

 


        Shandong Medical College is a provincial full-time general higher education institution, with two campuses located in Linyi and Jinan respectively.

The Linyi Campus originated as a branch campus established by Qingdao Medical College in Yishui in 1966. It was renamed Yishui Medical College in 1972, relocated to Linyi in 1982, and renamed Linyi Medical College in 1986, and finally adopted the current name Shandong Medical College in 2004.

The Jinan Campus, formerly known as Shandong Provincial Health Cadre School founded in 1954, was renamed Shandong Provincial Health Cadre Training College and Shandong Jinan Health School in 1958. It was re-established as Shandong Provincial Health School in 1989 and merged into Shandong Medical College in 2005.

The college covers a total area of 1,061,333 square meters (1,592 mu), with a building area of 471,900 square meters. Its fixed assets amount to 1.308 billion yuan, and the total value of teaching instruments and equipment reaches 289 million yuan. The library has a collection of 1.31 million paper books and 2.61 million digital resources. Currently, there are over 25,000 full-time enrolled students, including 2,989 students  enrolled in secondary-vocational and higher-vocational integrated training program and 1,277 adult junior college students.

Teaching Staff

The faculty team boasts 1 national "Double Leaders" Faculty Party Branch Studio, 2 national special action teams of "Double Leaders" Party Branch Secretaries for Faculty in the "Powering the Nation Initiative", 5 provincial-level teaching teams, 3 provincial-level Huang Danian-style faculty teams for institutions of higher education, 6 provincial-level vocational education teaching innovation teams, 2 provincial-level youth innovation teams, 4 provincial-level master teacher studios for vocational education, 2 provincial-level skilled master studios, and 1 provincial-level vocational education inheritance and innovation platform for technical skills.

In terms of individual honors, the team includes 1 National Outstanding Educator, 1 Provincial Leading Figure in Staff and Vocational Education, 1 Top Ten Model Teacher of Virtue in Provincial Institutions of Higher Education, 1 Provincial Outstanding Teacher, 9 Provincial Distinguished Teachers, 4 Provincial Young Skilled Teachers in Vocational Education, 5 Provincial Technical Experts, and 4 Qilu Biancang TCM Talents.

Over the past five years, more than 20 faculty members have served as directors or deputy directors in national, provincial and municipal academic societies, teaching advisory committees and specialty construction steering committees, or have been appointed as chief editors and deputy chief editors of national and provincial planned textbooks.

Program Development

Closely aligned with the development of the medical and health industry, we have implemented a talent cultivation reform centered on "building programs within industries and nurturing talents through practice." We are promoting the innovative "1.5+1.5" dual-subject education model. Shandong Medical College offers 32 programs spanning four major categories: Medicine and Health; Public Administration and Services; Resources, Environment, and Safety; and Food, Drugs, and Grain. These cover 13 program classes, including Clinical Medicine, Nursing, and Health Management and Promotion. Eight "micro-programs" have been newly established in areas such as Smart Senior Care and Pediatric Medicine. Enrollment is open to students from 16 provinces and cities nationwide. We have been recognized with two centrally-funded key programs, one National Pilot Vocational College Health Service Demonstration Program, one Ministry of Education Modern Apprenticeship Pilot Program, three Provincial High-Level Program Clusters, three Provincial Brand Program Clusters, seven Provincial Featured Programs, and six "3+2" articulated programs for seamless associate-to-bachelor degree pathways.

Industry-Education Integration

The university boasts 17 high-standard experimental and practical training centers, one Academician Workstation for Personalized Medicine and Translational Medicine led by Academician He Lin, and 2 provincial and municipal key laboratories of medicine and health. We have established over 280 off-campus internship and training bases across Shandong Province, as well as in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangdong, and Zhejiang.The university operates 11 affiliated hospitals. In collaboration with renowned enterprises and institutions such as Weigao Group, Shinva Medical, and Linyi Women and Children’s Hospital, we have co-established 8 clinical and industry colleges. Furthermore, deep cooperation has been forged with 51 hospitals and enterprises, including PKU International Hospital, the Affiliated Cancer Hospital of Shandong First Medical University, Shanghai Seventh People’s Hospital, and Lunan Pharmaceutical Group.

The university serves as the Chair Unit of the Vocational Education Committee of Rehabilitation Medicine of the Chinese Association of Rehabilitation Medicine, the Chair Unit of the National Industry-Education Integration Community for Medical Imaging and Radiotherapy, the Executive Director Unit of the National Industry-Education Integration Community for Wellness and Health, the Chair Unit of Shandong Health Vocational Education Group, the Executive Chair Unit of the Professional Development Steering Committee for Health Vocational Education in Shandong Province, the Chair Unit of the Shandong Industry-Education Integration Community for Medical and Health Care, and the Chair Unit of the Medical and Health Industry-Education Integration Alliance of the Shandong Health and Wellness Industry Association.

Teaching and Scientific Research

SDMC offers 3 National Online Excellent Courses, 2 National Excellent Resource Sharing Courses, 4 first-batch recommended courses of the Ministry of Education's Community Education Courses, and 37 online excellent courses at or above the provincial level. The college has built 3 Provincial Vocational Education Professional Teaching Resource Databases, and 7 textbooks have been selected into the "14th Five-Year Plan" National Planning Textbooks for Vocational Education. SDMC has presided over the development of 13 teaching normative documents at or above the provincial level, and undertaken the task of compiling the examination outline and examination guide for the Pharmaceutical Technician Examination of the National Health Professional and Technical Qualification Examination. In the past five years, SDMC has taken the lead in formulating the professional profiles and teaching standards for the majors of Medical Imaging Technology and Radiation Therapy Technology in higher vocational colleges and higher vocational undergraduate education of the medical and health category of the National Health Vocational Education Steering Committee, as well as the major of Medical Imaging Technology in secondary vocational education. The college has developed and completed provincial teaching guidelines for 6 majors including Clinical Medicine, Pharmacy, and Medical Imaging Technology. SDMC has been approved for more than 300 projects at or above the municipal and prefectural level, including 4 National Natural Science Foundation projects, 3 Provincial Natural Science Foundation projects, and 3 Ministry of Education projects. The college has won 2 National Teaching Achievement Awards and 3 Provincial Teaching Achievement Awards.

Social Service

In implementing the rural revitalization strategy, the school has conducted training for rural doctors and successively established training bases for rural doctors in southern, western, northern and eastern Shandong under the auspices of Shandong Medical College. It has launched an independent enrollment program tailored for rural doctors and hosted the project “Ten Thousand Village Doctors Enter the Classroom”. Its work experience has received coverage and attention from media outlets including People’s Daily and Dazhong Daily.

Leveraging its professional strengths, the school has supported community health services by organizing voluntary services and science popularization activities on health-related topics. It has developed distinctive voluntary service brands such as “the Nightingale Volunteer Nursing Service Team”, “Drug Control, AIDS Prevention and Health Companion”, and “College Students’ Weekend Clinic”.

In fulfilling the requirements for counterpart assistance to Xinjiang and Qinghai, the school has dispatched eight cadres and teachers to support the two regions. It has established a nursing education alliance among four institutions across Shandong, Xinjiang and Hainan, and jointly built a training base with the Health Commission of Haibei Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. Among those involved in the assistance work, one individual was awarded the title of “Model Individual for Ethnic Unity and Progress” and another “Excellent Teacher Supporting Xinjiang” in Shandong’s counterpart assistance to Xinjiang.

International cooperation

The college has successively established cooperative relationships with universities, medical institutions, and enterprises from 18 countries and regions, including the United States, South Korea, Russia, and Germany. It has partnered with Tyumen State Medical University (Russia) to train nursing students, with Kyungwoon University (South Korea) to train dental medicine students, and with Dongshin University (South Korea) to train optometry students. The college currently serves as the Deputy Director Member Unit of the Health Vocational English Professional Committee of the National Medical English Test, a member unit of the Huaxia Higher Nursing Education Alliance, a collaborating member unit of the International Standards for Professional Nurses (ISPN) Project, a Deputy Director Member Unit of the Guanghua International Nursing Education Alliance, a member unit of the China-Russia (Shandong) International Cooperation Alliance on Education, and a member unit of the Shandong Education Association for International Exchange.

Talent Cultivation

We implement the New Era Initiative for Fostering Virtue and Cultivating Talent, integrating medical ethics and professionalism throughout the entire talent cultivation process and guiding students to establish career aspirations of serving the grassroots and the people. In recent years, the admission scores of new students have ranked among the top higher vocational colleges in the province. In the 2025 summer college entrance examination, 71% of admitted students scored above the first-tier admission line. The graduate employment rate has remained above 90%, with a major-matching employment rate of approximately 95%, and employer satisfaction has consistently reached 100%. The college has been approved for five Ministry of Education Employment-Education Integration Projects. The number of students admitted to undergraduate programs via upgrading examinations accounts for more than one-third of the provincial undergraduate enrollment quota for medical and health-related majors. For majors such as Nursing, more than 90% of current students have obtained professional qualification certificates. Over the past five years, more than 300 students have won awards in various national and provincial innovation, entrepreneurship and skills competitions, including three national first prizes (gold medals) and two bronze medals in the National College Student Career Planning Competition.

The college is among the first batch of pilot institutions for the Assistant General Practitioner Program under the National Excellent Doctor Training Plan, a pilot institution for the Ministry of Education’s Modern Apprenticeship System, a national and provincial key teacher training base, one of the first National Healthy Schools, a national pilot school for campus first aid education, a Shandong Provincial Famous College for Skilled Talent Development, a provincial high-quality higher vocational college, a provincial demonstration unit for educational informatization, a provincial smart education demonstration institution under construction, a continuing education base for medical and health professionals in Shandong Province, an overseas training base for provincial foreign aid medical teams, a public training base for health and wellness industries under the province’s New and Old Kinetic Energy Conversion Strategy, a grassroots practical talent training base for the provincial medical and health industry, the host institution for the provincial spring college entrance examination skills test, a provincial “3+2” associate-to-bachelor pathway college, and a provincial social science popularization and education base. The college is also affiliated with the Branch School of the Party School of the CPC Shandong Provincial Committee (Shandong Provincial Academy of Governance) under the Provincial Health Commission. It has been awarded nearly 100 honorary titles, including National Advanced Collective in the Health System, National Model School for Standardized Language and Writing, Shandong Provincial Civilized Unit, Provincial Advanced Unit for Education and Teaching, Provincial Model School for Law-Based Governance, Provincial Green School, Provincial Model School for Integrated School-Enterprise Cooperation, Provincial Model Unit for Industry-Education Integration, Provincial Advanced Collective for Grassroots Health Training, and Provincial “Dual-Qualified” Teacher Training Consortium.
